Let's use Ephesians 5 as a backdrop.
Ephesians 5:22-33- Wives and Husbands
Verse 22- Wives, submit to your husbands, as to the lord, meaning as long as he is, and when he is not, being like a child of God. love conquers all things
Verse 23- Husbands, we are to be the head, not a dictator or judge, showing the love of Jesus, head of not ruler over as the world does, and as Christ is head of the church.
Verse 24- As the church submits to Christ, so our wives should submit in everything to their husbands, in Christ Jesus.
Verse 25- Now husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her. This is unconditional love, no strings attached.
Verse 26- So, we may sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word.
Verse 27- So that we as men of God might present the church to himself in splendor, without spots or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.
Verse 28- This is a very significant part of our love for our wives, loving our wives as our own bodies. (Every man loves himself).
Verse 29- No one hates his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church.
Verse 30- Because we are members of His body (Christ Jesus).
Verse 31- This brings up men; we must leave our mothers and fathers and start our new life with our wives. and that way we two become one in Christ Jesus.
Verse 32- This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the Church.
Verse 33- Men, let each one of us love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
All scripture comes from the ESV Bible.
Here are some more scriptures on marriage:
Genesis 2:24- This is the first marriage, Adam/Eve, therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. This does not say, "forget about father and mother; leave for the building of your union with your spouse." This is called mutual love and submission.
Matthew 19:6- "So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate. Meaning, let us stop letting other people overrule what God has put together. There are just a few of the many scriptures on marriage. Seek and search the word of God for more (Bible).
